Job Description
Summary
The Senior Director, AeroVironment (AV) Huntsville Innovation Center
-(HIC) shapes and implements the vision and strategy for AeroVironment at
the Huntsville Innovation Center. This role will partner with AV Global
Engineering leadership to deploy processes and tools. This role will oversee
the growth of the center to become a world class development center for
Unmanned Systems.
Position Responsibilities
Develops a high-performance engineering team with effective performance-
based management practices, which will achieve a high level of motivation,
morale, and results; fosters a high energy and total ownership culture
Grows opportunities to collaborate and create strategic value through
collaboration and partnerships with customers and industry
Provides technical expertise and guidance to their team to meet applicable
deadlines
Effectively plans and manages engineering budgets and financial objectives
consistent with the Annual Operating Plan (AOP)
Develops, implements, and continuously improves engineering tools, best
practices, capabilities, and capacity to support multiple Commercial &
Defense businesses within AV in global and emerging markets
Informs and obtains approval of matters outlined by AV Levels of Authority
Executes quality initiatives and ensures compliance with all country laws
and regulations
Leads with rapid agility to deal with shifting priorities, demands, and
timelines
Identifies and manages organizational and/or customer conflicts
Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline is required or equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience
Minimum 15 + years of successful engineering experience
Minimum 12 + years in leading Engineering organizations, managing an
engineering team across multiple Product Lines
Aerospace and/or UAV hardware and software engineering experience required
Proven & successful experience managing & leading a multi-disciplined
engineering organization
Demonstrated track record of taking ownership and driving results - self-
start and self-directed
Successful experience and comfort level presenting to executive leadership
and public speaking
Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills; demonstrated ability to
analyze and break down problems with high ambiguity into components
Demonstrated success leading the creation of concepts and contributing
technical writing for winning proposals
Working knowledge of AeroVironment systems and products and a track record
of managing multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to champion the process of change and promotes a culture of quick
adaptation, while helping others deal with the effects of change
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
Advance Degree is desired
Program Management and/or technical leadership experience on complex
aerospace systems
Demonstrates strong computer skills and proficiency with office software,
productivity tools and other software tools on one's area of expertise
Ability to work on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations
or data requires a review of a variety of factors; exercise judgment,
strategic thinking, and best practices to determine appropriate action,
yet also creatively thinks outside the box to find solutions to never-
solved problems
Must be able to provide clear and concise communication (written and
oral), as well as provide professional presentations
Uses vision to think beyond the immediate situation, explore multiple
potential paths, and adapt decision-making style based on the situational
circumstances
Inspires, motivates, and empowers people to deliver organizational goals,
while also delivering value back to employees
Brings organizational values to life using personality, uniqueness and the
creation of a shared vision

Special Requirements
U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) or
asylee/refugee status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)
required.
The salary range for this role is:
$192,000 - $288,000
AeroVironment considers several factors when extending an offer, including but
not limited to, the location, the role and associated responsibilities, a
candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
ITAR Requirement:
This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance
with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export
