The role:

GM's Creative Design organization is seeking a manufacturing supervisor who will be responsible for a medium size group of U.A.W. employees involved in the Design Center Strategic “A” Manufacturing Maintenance Department. Work is of a technical skill set using independent judgment within the limits of general practices and standards. Proactively pursue the vision established for the area and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation.

What You'll Do:

  • Supervise U.A.W. Skilled Trades Strategic “A” Maintenance Personnel, Facility Service Operator's (FSO's), Material Service Operator's (MSO's) and Clay Handlers (CH's)
  • Provide a Leadership role in the implementation of major department initiatives
  • Maintain awareness of quality standards, communicate department quality goals and leverage resources to solve quality problems
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with Design Fabrication employees (i.e., Union and Management)
  • Understand and consistently administer the National and Local U.A.W. agreements
  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping
  • Motivate, train and develop U.A.W. employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods
  • Utilize Labor Relations in accordance with Corporate Policies and Procedures and Government Regulations
  • Technical Knowledge of CNC Equipment, Milling Machines
  • Electrical, Mechanical & Software controls
  • Communicate between shifts, departmental areas and other departments to implement best practices, resolve problems and sustain consistent performance to objectives
  • Control costs and achieve productivity improvements
  • Manage hourly GM Kronos payroll and perform other administrative tasks, as required
  • Working knowledge of GMS system
  • Lead and facilitate Safety Incident report investigations
  • Meet all timing, quality and cost requirements
  • Interpret verbal design direction
  • Knowledge / Utilization of internal software applications

    Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Journeyperson card in maintenance trade or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrate high level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and facilitate others in group situations. Proficiency in team building and ability to create an environment that allows for measured risk taking

  • Demonstrate ability to effectively organize and plan

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of tools, materials, equipment and processes for respective area of responsibility
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools
  • College degree or equivalent training (1 to 3 years (UAW) Hourly Supervision Experience)
  • Available to work Saturday and Sunday's as required
