Job Description

Builders Wanted!

Rockwell Automation is building a modern Observability capability, integrating several monitoring, configuration, and inventory tools in a Manager Of Managers (MOM) pattern. We're looking for a Technical Lead to select, architect, integrate, and enhance this capability along with building an Observability development team. This is a new position reporting to the Director of Technical Operations.

The Tech Lead will have to form partnerships with multiple development and operational teams across Rockwell Automation. We are looking for someone with a background in application or systems development with an emphasis on real- time integration processing. You will lead the construction of a democratized, operational & observability platform ingesting telemetry, events, inventory, and configuration data from data center facilities components up through application layers and data forming key metrics. Rockwell is an Agile/SAFe shop and the Technical Lead will follow these practices as part of the SDLC.

Rockwell is a primary technology company, building a mix of hardware, software, and services solutions supporting high demand manufacturing customers. We need a Technical Lead that understands these kinds of mission- critical environments and how to build an observability platform with widely varying events/second. The lead will need to have passion for helping developers and operational personnel quickly detect, diagnose, and surface performance or other issues in the call stack or evolution of software as it's delivered. Our engineering teams are in the middle of a digital transformation, growing our SaaS portfolio, creating/enriching our DevSecOps capabilities, and you will help drive high reliability at the best TCO across public clouds, data centers, manufacturing plants, a service-oriented software stack, and Rockwell's global network.

This is a hands-on position requiring strong technical skills and the ability to gain the trust/cooperation of other technical teams.

In the sections below, Platform shall refer to all components in a software stack that are typically delivered as components supporting custom code or data constructs. These are network, server, database, firewall, certificate, CDNs, message queues, data/event busses, virtualization engines, containers, webservers, etc. Application will refer to all components, purchased or custom developed, that sit on top of the Platform layers.
