Hybrid: Position does not require and employee to be on-site full-time- but the general expectation is that the employee be on-site and average of three (3) days each week.
The Role
As a member of the GPS Plant Engineering and Equipment Installation Team you will be responsible for developing the statement of requirements and managing the execution of plant engineering and process equipment installation in various GM Manufacturing Centers. You will be responsible for up front Plant Engineering and Installation Execution activities across all ME Centers (Body, Paint and GPS).
Creativity and initiative along with a passion for managing construction projects are key characteristics of this position. Engineering or Installation Suppliers will work directly for you. You will be directly responsible for all aspects of their work, including safety, schedule, and cost.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
Generates technical solutions for current, new and major vehicle programs
Provides technical leadership for the Supplier
Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)
Develops Installation SOR (Statement of Requirements)
Solves engineering related problems and manages implementation
Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs
Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing, GM Centers, IE, Layout team and Material
Manages all aspects of the project execution including estimating, safety and scheduling
Supports debug and validation at the ME Center
Ability to support all shifts and holidays
Responsible to support various Centers in design process and installation of equipment based on requirements from the Center.
Your Skills And Abilities (Required Qualifications)
3+ years in one of the areas of construction management, safety management, tooling installation, engineering design, integration of equipment, and supporting plant projects
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience
Demonstrated technical and professional skills
Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
Proficient in Microsoft Project and Excel
Ability to use AutoCAD
Extensive and frequent travel may be required

Applicable Journeyperson's Card with Superintendent Experience
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
Specific knowledge of the union construction industry
Knowledge of any of the following: Press Shops, Body Shop, General Assembly, Paint Processes and/or Global Propulsion systems
Knowledge of controls automation and robotic systems
